General Description

Salrose, a term derived from the French "salt rose," represents the exquisite crystalline pink mineral found in the Congo. Often mistakenly labeled as Pink Calcite or Cobalt Calcite, Salrose encompasses specimens that are Cobalt-bearing Dolomite or Calcite. Originating from various regions in Southern and Central Congo, this mineral variety presents challenges in distinguishing between Dolomite and Calcite variants, especially in microcrystalline forms. As a result, Salrose serves as a convenient umbrella term encompassing both minerals without the need for precise mineral identification. Found sometimes with Silky Malachite, which is  renowned for its distinctive rosette or fan-like crystalline formations, captivates with its chatoyant and sparkling appearance. Originating from Kasompe, Congo, this region produces some of the finest silky specimens in the world, making them highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
